By "Wednesday", I mean my O.C. (original character). Considering that I post so much about other people's DeviantArt.com galleries, I thought it'd be cool if I introduced you guys to mine. You can catch her over at my DeviantArt.com account: AnEarnestSmile. She's a panda, no matter how much she doesn't look like one. Her favorite thing to do is wonder. She's young and has as much curiosity as a cat! Her daily costume includes a black dress and a yellow bow. I like the colors yellow and black; they remind me of life (yellow = light, while black = darkness). For her hair, she has a puffy bang with two side buns. If you like her, thanks - it means a lot. I upload new photos of her all the time, so (if you're interested) watch me. The photo on the left was drawn yesterday and is, right now, my most recent drawing of Wednesday. Like all my Wednesday drawings, this one is inspired by a quote.

The quote "Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can." by Danny Kaye, to be exact. I really like this quote; I find it, not only inspiring, but also, just extremely true. Every life comes to an end, and so the time to start living is now. We're all so lucky to have this journey and should really try to enjoy every moment of it, because you never know where the road is going to end. Thank you for reading this post, and I wish a well day ahead of you. - Lola

Cloe Bowiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07729288374528648189noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8034541202515343135.post-20427059730050879262011-06-25T19:10:00.000-04:002011-06-25T19:10:58.658-04:00* You Will Never Know *
Photo Courtesy of the Lovely "icy-soul(.deviantart.com)"
As I was glancing at the recent uploaded photos on DeviantArt.com's homepage, I came across something wonderful - the photo on the left! I found the photo so marvelous that I simply had to check out the artist's gallery, in order to see what other outstanding master pieces they had to offer. To my surprise, there was hardly any artwork in their gallery at all - but for a reason. The artist once had many uploads but recently deleted all of them, in order to organize their gallery. All of her photos should be nicely re-uploaded any day now. Until then, how about a mini interview with the talented, young artist? My interview with, "icy-soul", the artist, is below.
My words/questions are typed in a soft purple, while his words/answers are typed in a soft blue - to avoid confusion.

Hey, dollies! Today we're here with.... "icy-soul"! *applause* Greetings, doll - how's life?: Hi there! First, I would like to say that I am a young aspiring photographer and by no means am I a professional and the only formal training I have had in photography is one semester of a high school introductory course where I unfortunately did not learn as much as I had hoped. I did however take visual arts courses throughout high school but nothing past that. Life is busy, but good. Trying to balance my time between class, homework, friends, family, a part time job, other responsibilities and my art can be pretty challenging but I seem to be managing it quite well. *phew* so much to do... but the rewards are so wonderful.

A busy life is a fully lived life. What inspired you to take this photo?: I decided I wanted (and needed) a new photo for my DeviantArt ID and I have always liked the idea of 'what's behind the mask'. It seems to be a common theme throughout much of my art, which unfortunately I do not have fully uploaded on DeviantArt at the moment. For the past 3 years I have noticed myself using the idea of "what's behind the mask" and, for lack of a better phrase, "you can't judge a book by it's cover" in many of my pieces. It goes back to one of my art teachers. She told us to create a piece that was very personal and at that point in my life I had been struggling with who I am on the inside vs. who everyone sees me as. I still have these struggles which is why showing that you cannot always tell who a person really is and the idea of hiding my true self from the world is such a strong theme in many of my self-portraits and personal works. This theme, however, does not necessarily carry over to my other photographs or art, mainly just the ones that directly relate to myself.

The most beautiful artwork comes from within. Is that you in the photo? If not, who is it?: Yes, it is me in the photo. I spent so much time trying to set the tripod up and prepare for the photo but I am quite pleased with the finished piece. It really is rare that I find a self-portrait of myself that I like.

I'm sure all of your self-portraits are great. What's your favorite thing to photograph?: I would have to say that my favourite thing to photograph is either my cats, flowers or anything macro.

Macro makes for wonderful photos. Did you use PhotoShop, or any other program/software, for the photo?: I did use Photoshop however I forget which edition I have... I believe it's Photoshop Elements 9. I find myself turning to Photoshop probably more often than I should. Often when I do use Photoshop on one of my photos, it is just to adjust the exposure back to normal since I don't usually find time to take my camera out until the evening when the light is fading. This image specifically (and a couple others in my gallery that are very similar to it) is fairly heavily edited because I have added some textures and changed the colour hue to something more... 'aged' or 'acidic'.
Yes, I've noticed the "aged" texture; very nice. What's the best thing about DeviantArt.com?: I love that I am able to share my art with the DeviantArt community and view other artists' works. It is a great and lively community of artists who range from amateur to professional. It is also a good way to give and receive feedback and constructive criticism on art.

Agreed, indeed. Where did you get the cool theater mask?: I actually bought the mask in the photo from Michaels Arts and Crafts. Like many of my trips to Michaels I went in looking for just a couple new paintbrushes but came out with much more than I had intended. I can't count how many time or how much money I have spent because I went in looking for one or two items but came out with ten or twelve. I really shouldn't be allowed to shop there alone. ;)

Bring a friend next time! Random, but what's it like living in Canada?: Well, it's sort of hard to describe. I have never been asked this question before. I would guess that it is very similar to living in the USA. I come from a small town in rural Ontario, nothing too fancy but also not a farming community. I love taking trips-- I have been to Florida many times with my family and to New York City once with some friends on an art trip. I must say New York was incredible but I love my life here too much to leave for long. Even though the weather changes from fairly hot in the summer to well below freezing in the winter, I love every day of it. I love when the leaves change colour and fall to the ground and the cool chill of a crisp autumn day. I also love the beautiful snow that blankets the ground during the winter and Christmas certainly wouldn't feel like Christmas without the snow. I also love when the new flowers begin to bloom and everything is reborn during the spring and I even love the heat of the sun while sitting next to a pool. Canada is a wonderful place to live and I am so lucky to live here with my family and friends.

I've never thought so much of Canada before; it sounds amazing. Well, unfortunately, dollies, that all from "icy-soul." for today.
Thank you very much!
No, no, thank you! Without you, this blog post wouldn't be possible. For more photos from "icy-soul", be sure to check out her DeviantArt.com gallery. He's an 18 year old male with an adventurous life that you'll find out about later on in this post. Right now, lets talk about his owner for a moment. His owner's name is Devon and is a 19 year old male from Norway. When I told him that I wanted his doll photos and possibly an interview, he was very nice about it and responded to all my questions super quickly. The mini interview is below.
My words/questions are typed in a soft purple, while his words/answers are typed in a soft blue - to avoid confusion.

Hi, dollies! Today we're here with.... Devon! *applause* Hey, doll - how's life?: Just great, thank you. :)

Sure thing, I'm glad to hear that. What inspired you to take this photo?: I've been listening to a lot of game soundtracks lately, and some of the tracks gave me these images in my head. So I had to rush outside as soon as the weather allowed me to and take the pictures I had "seen" in my head. :)

Very interesting! Why do you like photographing dolls?: I find them to be the best models to work with. :D I can have them dress and pose the way I want without getting any complaints. Also, you can change wigs and eyes easily, if you want a specific theme or look in your pictures. With humans that would be a lot of stress, colouring hair or wigs, colour lenses and a lot of makeup (unless you use photoshop on all that).

Yup, and they're always available whenever you need them. Besides dolls, what else do you enjoy taking photos of?: Animals, especially cats; cats are such elegant creatures. I also like taking pictures of humans when I can find a model who is actually up for taking more than just plain portraits.

Cats are really elegant. What type of doll is that in the photo (Barbie, Blythe, Bratz, etc....)?: That is a BJD, which is short for ball-jointed-dolls. They are made of hard resin and have strings going through their bodies. The joints make them wonderful to use for photographing and posing. Many people also use them to make doll clothes and accessories.

You're making me want a BJD so badly! Did you use PhotoShop, or any other program/software for the photo?: Yes, I always use photoshop to fix the light a little and crop the images so they keep the balance and contrast. Also, I usually have to change the size, so I don`t end up with pictures that are 3000+ pixels in size.

Ah, I see; that makes sense. In one of the photos' description, it states that Valtiel is 18 years old. Could you tell us more about Valtiel?: Of course. :) Valtiel was born in Scotland. He's got a twin brother called Jeremy (he is curently without a body, so I dont have any pictures of him on dA yet). They grew up on a farm in Crieff. When they were younger, there was an epidemic going through the town and they were, like so many others, infected. They died not long afterwards. Nathan (the vampire, whom I also dont have any pictures of on DA, yet) was in the area at the time and heard about the twins. He decided quickly that he wanted them as his "minions" or "puppets" as he calls them. He put his mark on both of their right eye and awoken them igjenn. Valtiel has a great sense of humor and is social and outgoing. But, he is VERY stubborn; he can easily be angered and has somewhat an aggression problem, but he`s kind and protective towards his brother and those he cares about. Oh... and he loooooves turtleneck sweaters; he`s obsessed with them for some reason. :´D

Wow, they've got a whole story up your sleeve, don't you? Sounds really good! Random, but how old are you?: I`m 19 years old.

Huge thanks to everyone who has still been visiting my blog; it's a pleasure to see that this blog still has a few people visiting everyday, even tho' I haven't updated it in over a month. The first full color was at the age of 10, that was reddish brown with red stripes. Just before I turned 11, I got red colour and later started to bleach it again. For a while I had blonde hair. Then at the age of 13 I started to really do it with my hair; I tried so many different colours! But in the end I found this, and I think I'll keep the turquoise for now. *nod*
The way I do it now is first I bleach the root part (the lighter, the better) and wash. That takes about 1h+. Then I add the purple and turquoise and this takes about 30-40 minutes. When I wash the shock colours, it takes time in the shower because well, a lot of colour comes out. :D
Isn't the photo on the left lovely? The doll owner's name is Kristina, which is funny because this doll's look reminded me of a look Christina Aguilera had in one of the scene's for her music video "Fighter". It was during the bridge, I think. She had on this white dress, her hair was white, and her makeup had this dusty white vibe to it, and it was just really cool. This doll photo definitely has emotion within it, and so I was curious of what Kristina was thinking when she took this photo. Fortunately, she was so kind and answered all of my questions in the little interview below. See for yourself!
Questions = written in blue. Answers = written in purple.

Start-->What inspired you to take this picture?: Hmnn well I love to take pictures of all my dolls. I had just gotten her from my aunt. I was honored to be given one of my aunts first BJDs. I wanted to get outside and take pictures of her while the lighting was nice.

Why do you like photographing dolls?: I guess I like to photograph them because that they are pretty. Plus they don’t move like people or animals. Another thing is that my dolls are kind of my passion. I love them and photographing them is a way to share my love of them with the world. ^-^

Besides dolls, what else do you enjoy taking pictures of?: I mainly take pictures of my dolls, but I do take pictures of other things sometimes. I like to take pictures of flowers, My dogs, and random things I find appealing. I once took a nice picture of these iron hooks on a door while on a photography field trip.

What type of doll is that in the picture (Barbie, Blythe, Bratz, etc....)?: Fay is a BJD aka Ball Jointed Doll. She is a Supia Rhoda sculpt.

Did you use PhotoShop, or any other program/software, for the picture?: No. I actually don’t own any of those types of software. I’m also not good at using them.

Where did you buy Fay's beautiful hair from? If you can remember?: I would tell you if I knew. My aunt had given me Fay and I don’t know where she got the wig. I don’t think she’d remember either since it’s been years since she bought Fay.

Random, but how old are you + how old is Fay?: I’m 19 and Fay I haven’t really came up with an age. She is one of the immortal Fey(faerie) though.<--End
First actually post in a while; I hope you guys like it. This post is made possible with the help of a girl named Jenny (jennyjinya) + a guy named CAndrew (todeskuenstler); they're the owners of the photo on the left. Jenny is the model you see in the photo, and CAndrew was the photographer. Together, they had lots of fun and shared the photos in both of their DeviantArt.com galleries. I love Jenny's outfit, and the doll she's holding is simply adorable. I had some questions about this photo that Jenny was kind enough to answer, so a quick interview with Jenny is below!
Questions = written in blue. Answers = written in purple.

Start-->As the model, did you have a say on how the photo(s) should be taken at all?: Oh yes, of course. We planned the shot all together, so I could share any ideas as well. ^^

Did you buy those fashions specifically for this photo shoot?: Parts of it. Many things were donations by friends and family, the rest was selfmade. ;)

Are all those stuffed animals yours?: Not at all, we haven't had any at first, we asked friends and classmates from school if they have any stuffed animals they don't need anymore. So it was all about donations by others as well. We even asked on DeviantArt. ;)

What was the funnest part of taking this photo shoot?: Guess the fact how we managed it in a certain way. Actually we have had much stuff to do, but for any reason we always forgot about the time and took far longer for everything than it was planned... and when we realized that fact we're getting panic all the time, again and again. :D Also, the "Outtakes" was fun to see later at the computer. But in the end, it was fun all the time. ;)

Tell us about the photographer; do you know him/her well?: Awww, he's my personal Mr. Awesome, and one of the most important friends I have. <3 I love how his shots turn out and the ideas he has. It's fun to work with him, and he was really patient with me. XDDDDD<--End
I hope you're all doing well. It's been a while since my last blog update, and there's a reason for that. Firstly, the photo on the left is drawn by a DeviantArt.com member named Jodie. She created this work of art with alcohol based markers, water-colored ink, colored pencils, fineliner pigment ink, and a Bristol board. Isn't it simply amazing? I cannot believe this was drawn by hand; it looks so digital - just unbelievable, really. If you're a member of DeviantArt.com, don't forget to show Jodie some love by favorite-ing + commenting on her lovely photo. Okay, now, about the blog,
my computer broke about a month ago, and so I wasn't able to blog. It was only broken for a little while tho', but I sort of lost my inspiration to blog after that. So yeah, it's been about a month, and I think I'm finally starting to miss blogging. I can't wait to interview people again; it's one of my favorite parts of all this, if not my favorite. - Lola
Cloe Bowiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07729288374528648189noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8034541202515343135.post-70597009570290348072011-02-16T08:00:00.003-05:002011-06-23T19:11:05.771-04:00"I found my way...."
>February 16, 2011
There have been a whole lot of doll photos on this blog lately, so I'm super grateful to have found this lovely nature photo and, also, the permission to share it with you guys. I really love this photo; it just looks so real and beautiful, and it makes me think of the song "Home" by Daughtry - which is, like, one of the best songs ever. If you've never heard it, you need to hear it.... because the melody is really good and the lyrics are pretty amazing. Okay, back to the post. I was able to get an interview with the photographer of this photo, and she was so nice and cheerful. I think the interview went very well, but tell me - what do you guys think? The quick interview is below!

--What inspired you to take this picture?: Light inspired me to take the picture. There are many characteristics about light that captures my attention... it's just beautiful!

Besides nature, what else do you enjoy taking pictures of?: I love taking pictures of babies, but then again who doesn't? I tend to go more towards landscapes/nature than anything else, but I would say that I enjoy capturing moments of my family.

You've titled this picture "Will you find your way?", why is that?: I gave the photo that title, because it was at a time in my life where I was lost myself. Not only literally (I was in a foreign country by myself, and wondering around a huge city garden), but emotionally as well. I found my way after that trip. :)

Did you use PhotoShop, or any other program/software, for the picture?: If I do editing, it is always in photoshop, but recently I've wanted Aperture 3. The only editing I did on this picture was give it a tad bit of a blur so the sun would illuminate more.

Random, but what's your favorite book?: Oh, that's a hard one. I don't read too often, but if I had to choose an all time favorite, I would say Mrs. Mike. One of my current favorites is Three Cups of Tea!-- The End.

My most favorite part is definitely the teddy bear. It reminds me of a teddy bear I really want on GaiaOnilne.com for my avatar; it's gray, and it has a sad look to it - just like the one you see here. I used to love teddy bears; they were up there with dolls, on my favorite toy list. I'm going to try to post more often about teddy bears, because they're very similar to dolls, and so I surmise a lot of you would probably like to see them on here. Now, back to the post. The artist's name is Sarah, and the little girl in the drawing's name is Abby. Words from the artist (about the drawing): "This is one of my characters, Abby, when she was a toddler. Having been abandoned at the boarding school hours after she was born, she grew up under the care of the school's owner - Heath. He actually adopted her and loved her as he would his own daughter.

Abby had the same nightmare, everytime she fell asleep, for as long as she could remember. Being frightened, she wanted to hug Heath. Her toy panda wasn't good enough anymore. It took Abby weeks to gather the strength and courage to ask Heath if she could sleep next to him because she was scared he would say 'NO, GO BACK TO BED.'

One night, Abby was quite surprised and felt very stupid when Heath said; 'Of course you can sweetie.'"

Aww! Isn't that the sweetest? That's not all, dollies; Sarah was kind enough to allow me to ask her many questions about Abby; the interview is below!

--How are you?: How am I? I have a lot of illnesses, but I manage. Art keeps me happy =]

What inspired you to create an OC (original character)?: Being sick. I was in a very dark place and I clutched onto my characters. They really did save my life and I love all my characters dearly.

Why the name "Abby"?: Abby is one character from a series I have created. I have a special place for Abby as her personality is very similar to my own. I chose her name because it is short for Abercrombie (the monster) which is her nickname.

Do you ever plan to make a webcomic of some sort with Abby (if you haven't already)?: Not at the moment, but I am writing a novel, making short films (You can watch them on this account *BS-designs and in the future, a feature length 3D animated film.

So we know a little about Abby when she was younger, how is she now?: She was abandoned the day she was born and doesn't know who her parents are. She is now 13 years old and her best friend (who is much older) is going to adopt her!

Random, but what was your favorite TV show as a child - and why?: My favourite TV show as a child was Under The Trap Door or Grizzly Tales. I have always been interested in stop motion, so now I am doing my own short films, I really enjoy it!--
Okay, so things have changed with this blog since yesterday; mainly just the template, but there are a few new "add-ons" that I'd like to point out.

Firstly, right besides the welcoming sign, there's a banner for "Invisible Children" - which is a very good organization to stop the abduction of children for use as child soldiers. Oh, and while you're at my blog, please, click the "Invisible Children" banner I have up; it's free and each click will help earn school fees for an Ugandan child.

Secondly, there's a new chatbox; stroll down to the very bottom of the page, and you can't miss it. I added it there for you guys, so I really hope you use it. Thirdly, there's a poll almost directly above the new chatbox - vote! Fourthly, meet Mini-Lola; she's the blog's new mascot thingy, so you should be seeing a lot of her on here soon. Finally, last but not least, fifthly, I've changed the blog's title a bit - from *Dolls+Stuffs* to ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ *Dolls+Stuffs: Broken Dollies* ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ (ignore the hearts, please - long story). I thought *Dolls+Stuffs* just sounded way too childish, and it's not that there's anything wrong with that, but it just wasn't for me. Since changing the URL could cause confusion to some who may visit daily but aren't following, I've decided to keep the "dolls and stuffs" thing and simply just add "Broken Dollies" on the side. An older post I did, with someone over at GaiaOnline.com, was one of the main reasons for why I added "Broken Dollies" onto the title. The post was titled "Love Will Always Find You". There was an interview included in that post, and what inspired me was the way the girl answered the question "What inspired you to take this picture?"; her answer was....

"I love how beauty can be perceived in many different ways, I wanted to capture something where something as pretty and delicate as a doll can show that even if a person has a few cracks and missing pieces they can still be beautiful and accomplish love, or even find it in the most obscure way possible."

- Lola

Cloe Bowiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07729288374528648189noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8034541202515343135.post-55649434355464003752011-02-06T08:00:00.004-05:002011-02-08T08:45:40.283-05:00Those Eyes>February 06, 2011

Okay, I love this. Look at this; is this an amazing work of art or what? Seriously, there's so much meaning within this photo: dark, sad, mysterious, wistful, fearless - I could go on and on. My very favorite part about this doll is, by far, his eyes; I love the color, and I don't even know what color they are - gold, maybe? All I know is that they're so round and so shiny, and I love them! The doll's name is Muse, and yes: he's a boy. Oh, and P.S. I got a little interview with Muse's owner - must read!

What would you describe your DeviantArt gallery as?: My world, my thoughts and myself.

Where does the inspiration for all your beautiful photos come from?: From anywhere. Her name is Amanda, and she allowed me to share her wondrous photo with all of you, and I just had so many questions about it; I asked her if she'd be willing to answer a few of them, and yeah - she did. The interview is below! Please, read the whole thing; I loved it and think you guys will, as well.

What inspired you to take this picture?: The layout of the trees that seemed to look like a pathway to a hidden world.

Besides trees, what else do you enjoy taking pictures of?: I enjoy taking pictures of animals, people, architecture, spontaneous moments - emotional and emotive scenes.

What type of trees are those in the picture?: Coniferous, pine trees, maple, lots of shrubs.

Did you use PhotoShop, or any other program/software, for the picture?: I used Adobe Elements 5.0 & Nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 to achieve the desired effects.

Random, but what's your favorite time of the day (dawn, twilight, sunrise, morning, noon, afternoon, evening, sunset, twilight, dusk, night, or midnight)?: I prefer sunset and twilight hours. Not too bright, not too dark and you can actually enhance the colors to change the mood at those hours.-- The End.

For more fascinating nature photos, be sure to visit Amanda's DeviantArt gallery. It was, like, another one of those hidden pathway photos, and I love photos like that; when I look at them, I don't know, they make me feel as if they're taking me into a far away world of something, so yeah - check out Amanda's gallery, and look for "Lost"; you've got to see it!

-Lola
Cloe Bowiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07729288374528648189noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8034541202515343135.post-24786272295969776192011-01-14T09:00:00.000-05:002011-01-14T09:00:13.277-05:00May I pls, plz ask?>January 14, 2011
May I ask.... I love musicals; I plan on watching it sometime soon - I hope it's good.

The movie is available for only $18.99 at Amazon.com!

-LolaCloe Bowiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07729288374528648189noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8034541202515343135.post-91832125667707253252011-01-11T11:30:00.001-05:002011-01-15T09:44:30.144-05:00Too Cute?> January 11, 2011
Photo Courtesy of GaiaOnline.com's member, "Illess"
How adorable is this drawing? It's a little strange, but I think that brings out the cuteness in it even more! Does that make sense? Anyway, do you see the details? Those patterns look simply amazing together. The owner of this photo has been a member of DeviantArt.com for 7 years now - with the amazing status of 636 Deviations, 49,146 Comments, 470,729 Page views, 73 Scraps, 2 Critiques, 217 Forum Posts, and 2,247 Favorites! She goes by the names "Onnawufei", "Onnawaffle", just plain "Onna" or "Zim"; I like Zim. I was so thrilled to, not only have her permission to post up this wonderful photo, but also to get an interview with her. The interview is below!

--
What inspired you to take those pictures?: Well Ko's character is an artist, so I was trying to think of something she might think of, if that makes any sense. Somehow that ended in me drawing a checkerboard pattern on poster board, which took way longer than it should have. *laugh*

Besides dolls, what else do you enjoy taking pictures of?: I love taking pictures of animals, nature, architecture... most things really. I'm not a huge fan of taking people pictures but I'm game for pretty much anything else.

What type of doll is that in those pictures (Barbie, Blythe, Bratz, etc....)?: The doll in the picture is an Asian balljoint doll, specifically a CP Soony.

Did you use PhotoShop, or any other program/software, for those pictures?: I use Lightroom 2 and Photoshop CS3 to edit pretty much all my pictures.

Besides "checkers and stripes", what other patterns do you like?: I like spiral patterns. Spirals are probably my favorite... if that counts.

Random, but if the doll in the picture had a favorite color - what would it be?: Ko's the kind of girl who would tell you a favorite color one week, but tell you a different one a week later. This week I'd say her favorite color is yellow. *giggle*-- The End.

Bonus photo!
Again, Photo Courtesy of onnawufei.deviantart.com
Remember, people, to check
out Zim's DeviantArt gallery.
Trust me, I've been to it, and
there are a lot of other very
nice photos that you've got to
see. -Lola
Cloe Bowiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07729288374528648189noreply@blogger.com4
